Epsom is no ordinary calfskin. Its fine cross-hatched grain is not natural: it is heat-pressed into the surface. The compacted grain resists scratches, water and perspiration where smooth leather marks within weeks. The band holds its shape and does not curl.
It is also the leather that carries colour best: the pigment stays bright, without the haze full-grain leathers take on as they age. Epsom does not patina — after two years it looks as it did on day one. On a handbag, some regret that. On a band worn every day, it is exactly what you want.
Adopted by the great houses since 2004, it has become the reference for high-end watch bands: structure, resistance, slimness.
